More sheetrock, Exterior trim & Sleeping

 I finished the spackling in the main portion of the house and primed the walls.  I was very surprised that it turned out so well.  Only had a couple of spots to touch up and then I painted the walls.

Once that was done I had the courage to start spackling the bathroom which is underway.  I hope to finish that up this week and get it painted.  During the spackling, priming and painting process there is some down time waiting for stuff to dry so I while waiting I finished up the outside trim...corner trim, window and door trim, etc.

Also, now that I have my new mattress I've started sleeping in the house.  I haven't really moved in, I'll do that once I get a toilet and sink installed but sleeping on the new mattress is way more comfortable than sleeping on the RV mattress.

Sheetrock & Mud

 Yesterday I finished installing the sheetrock.

Today I started the process of mud and tape.  I've never been very good at this, or more honestly, I've always sucked at this, but I figure I can learn to do an adequate job.  So, I may be mudding and sanding for weeks and weeks...just have to wait and see if an old dog can learn a new trick.

Shower, Mini-split, Mattress & Sheetrock

 With the insulation done I could install the shower stall and fixtures.

 

That done I started sheetrock.  I started in the bathroom with moisture resistant sheetrock and when that was done I installed the bathroom heater and the in-wall medicine cabinet.

I started sheetrock in the living room area starting with the under loft ceiling and then walls.

I poured a small slab outside and mounted the outdoor portion of the mini-split system on it.

Also, my new mattress arrived and I got it put up in my loft.

Painting Beadboard, V-Groove & Varnish

 I put two coats of "Marshmallow" interior paint on the bead board.  It really lightens up the interior of the house.

Then I installed the V-groove pine planks at the peak and on the east gable end and applied two coats of varnish.

 

Now that the power is connected to the house I fired up my circuits.  All are working fine except one circuit. My plan is to troubleshoot that issue tomorrow.

Electrical Hookup & Beadboard

Today a small crew arrived and ran the underground cable to hook up the electric to the house. They say that within a couple of days some techs from the power company will arrive and move the meter from the temporary pole to the house. 

 During the past few days I've been installing beadboard plywood on the ceiling and in the loft.

It was a difficult task to do alone as the inside of the ceiling is sloped and gravity was working against me.  It took me several sheets before I figured out a reasonable way to accomplish it.

The space above the beadboard in the main part of the house and the east end gable wall will be covered with natural finish V-groove pine.

Tomorrow I'll get started painting the beadboard.

 Today I completed the insulation...crawl space, roof & walls all insulated and I'm glad it's done.  Next step is to start covering the walls.

Vapor Barrier & Shovel Work

 Today I finished insulating the floor (in the crawl space) and laying out the crawl space vapor barrier.  Happy to be done working in the crawl space as it's uncomfortable and awkward.

In the past few days a few inconvenient things have happened:

1.  During the building inspection I was told that I need a clean-out fixture between the house and the septic tank.  So, I'll need to dig up the waste pipe and put in the clean-out.

2.  The electric company came by to flag out the path for the underground power from the pole to the house.  When the driveway was put in the excavator put in a conduit running under the driveway for the power cable to run through.  For some unknown reason he left the end of the conduit north of the driveway exposed above ground but buried the conduit south of the driveway.  So, I need to dig that up so the power company can run their cable under the drive.

3.  Two days ago I got up and found my yard flooded.  Seems the underground water pipe broke.  So, now I need to dig up the water pipe and repair it.

I don't really like shoveling so I'm going to hire my grandson and a friend or two of his to do the digging for me.  Sounds like they're going to start tomorrow morning.

Once we locate the conduit under the drive the power company will come and hook the main meter to the house.  They, I'll have power in the house to all of the lights and outlets and won't need to use an extension cord from the temporary power hook up anymore.
